Making documentaries on Texas is a blast. But sometimes you just have to wax philosophical. Like driving from Austin to Luckenbach and realizing you left the tapes at home, or traveling to the Sophienburg Museum in New Braunfels for photo research and discovering that's its Presidents Day and, of course, the museum is closed.

But you just have to keep going....
My "day job" is a night job, (I'm a musician on Sixth St. in Austin), but that does little to prepare me for the eclectic music that my Chief Cameraman, Evaristo "Buddy" Castillio makes me listen to on these long drives. Buddy is a fine young guitarist and I am a fine old pianist, so we have some pretty interesting arguments as we journey along the roads of Texas. I enjoy Frank Zappa as much as the next guy, but listening to him in the pastoral scenery of the Texas hill country just seems downright incongruous!

We have met some fascinating people in our travels...
and Jim Gramon is certainly one. He is the author of several books including "Legendary Texas Storytellers" and "Fun TexasFestivals". Riding around with Jim should be a required course at UT! His insights and experience make me a little jealous; albeit more educated. I recommend his books 'cause we don't have enough room in the truck for everybody!
